A well-attended evening during which one might be forgiven for thinking that Paul, in the position of authority, had construed to accompany everything. Early on he said, "Now, we'll make a racket."
Phil and Jane came along ...
These people are not to be confused with Phil and Dawn who were also there.
Dawn once again occupied the arms of a celestial being ...
While Phil took to the water ...
Hallelujah!
Max and Sylvia sang of hidden secrets ...
Roger delighted us with his self-penned masterpiece ...
Leave all sorrows in the past.
There was mining ...
... where the copper, the clay, the arsenic and tin ...
Eventually we all went home to a song that had an appropriate refrain ...
There was further holiness as Paul built a sea-going vessel in the desert ...
And Angela hoped to make Heaven her home and booked her ticket on Life's Railway to get there ...
Mike P. lost his way trying to find Gibraltar ...
Is it left or right?
Bob demanded another badge for performing a third song ...
Phil and Dawn sent us home to an old favourite ...
No, there were no scantily-dressed dancing ladies present!
Addendum ...
We received a very nice letter of thanks from the Friends of Guiding, transcribed below:
Dear Colin and Members of the City Folk Club,
Allan and I really enjoyed being with you for your Christmas party on Friday 18th December, listening to your lovely folk songs, carols, music and delicious refreshments.
Thank you for inviting us and for the generous cheque for £100 I was presented with for our ongoing Friends of Guiding fundraising for improvements to the Guide Hall.
I wish you all another happy and healthy year making music in our hall during 2016.
Well, here we are at the end of another successful year for The City Folk Club, and we will shortly be able to mark 12 years of our survival.
Attendance ...
2015 saw a total of 1238 person-attendances including some welcome new faces. That makes an average weekly attendance over 48 meetings of 15.18 participants, (not including stuffed rock-hoppers.)
And the attendance award goes to Mosley!
Performances ...
A total of 1238 pieces of something like music were performed including repetitions. That's an average of 25.26 performances per meeting, As it only costs you £2,00, that makes each one worth about 8 pence! One wonders if we are not undervaluing our efforts as the quality of music just continues to astound.
Money ...
As an out-going Labour chancellor once declared ...
"There is no money!"
Fear not; we are a not-for-profit organisation. We achieved our aim of making no profit whatsoever, and Dogsbody did not enjoy an expensive Caribbean holiday at your expense!
Finally ...
Huge thanks to
all of you who have come along, regularly and occasionally,
to all who take turns as MC,
to all our performers and listeners,
to everyone who helps clear up at the end of the evening
to the Friends of Guiding who make this comfortable venue available to us
and to those kind individuals who make sure that Dogsbody gets home safely!
So, enjoy a very happy New Year, and please keep coming along to appreciate great music and fun in good company.
What a wonderful evening. Attendance was such that we almost had to send for extra chairs ...
There were wonderful floral table-decorations ...
With enormous thanks to Angela.
Much food was consumed, (and almost as much was taken home!) There was music and song, but no dancing.
Waterfall.
Now, where's little Jackie Frost?
Dawn and Phil took us to a remote island in the Indian Ocean ...
Christmas Island
A celestial being, (Mave,) brought a message ...
for a Most highly-flavoured lady ... GLORIA!
... and a spaceman came travelling ...
and he sang, "La-la-la ..."
Mick had a more traditional mode of transport ...
Oh, look, Jehoshaphat ... that must be the International Space Station.
Very many thanks to everyone who turned up to share music, food and good company, making this one of the most enjoyable and successful evenings of the year. Particular thanks to Angela for keeping us in order, and for the beautiful flowers. So, we hope that you all enjoy a Happy Christmas, Yuletide, or whatever you want to call it, in which ever fashion you choose, and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2016.
