More thoughts about summer ...

Here’s a date for your diary …
Saturday 25th June 2011.

Many will recall that, in 2008 and 2009, the City Folk Club cruised the Chichester Ship Canal on board M.V. Richmond. A few people expressed regret that we did not repeat the exercise last year.

In response to that disappointment we have chartered the Richmond again for a midsummer’s evening of self-catering entertainment and frivolity.
There will be 36 berths available at £5.00 per head.
Tickets will be available at the club from the beginning of April on a first-come-first-served basis.

There is nothing you need to do now, except to include this date in your calendar.
Details will follow.

So, there’s something to look forward to!

Being 31st December 2010

New Year’s Eve …
David was absent owing to ill health.
Considerable sympathy was widely expressed among the 17 people present.
We subsequently learned that Ken, too, was suffering.
Nobody was bothered about that!

Bill 1.1, bless him, disregarding his own phlegmatic suffering, stepped up to the table as MC.
Jenny supplied nibbles, delightful confections and party-poppers.
Beatrice brought along an iced cake, (photo awaited.)
Bill sported some strange headgear, (photo not taken.)
Colin tried to write things down.

Here’s what we sang/played in some semblance of order:

King of the Fairies: Bill
Coppers’ Christmas Song: Colin
Sing With Me Now: Eddie
I Wish I had a River: Jane
Bonny Earl of Murray: Duncan
Just Another Winter’s Tale: Margaret
My Christmas List: Tony
Music Box Dancers: Mick
Lara’s Theme (Somewhere, My Love): Berry & Paul
Here We Come a-Wassailing: Beatrice & Angela
Awake, Awake: Angela
Richmond City Blues: Roland
If I Were a Blackbird: Jenny
Another Girl: Paul
Available Light: Roger
I Wonder as I Wander: Bill & Colin
Oikan Anys Bethlehem: Colin
I’ll Lay you Down, Love: Eddie
Coventry Carol: Jane
Light of the Peat Fire Flame: Duncan
Cherry Tree Carol: Margaret
I’m Only Sleeping: Tony
Toss the Feathers: Mick
The Wonder of You: Berry
The Jolly Ploughman: Angela & Roland
Keys of my Heart: Jenny & Bill
I Don’t Care Where They Bury my Body: Paul
Hobo’s Lullaby: Roger
For Ireland I’d Not Tell her Name/Hardiman’s Jig: Bill
Spencer the Rover: Colin, Bill, Roger & Mick
All the Good Times: Eddie
After Hours: Jane
Go Down, Moses: Duncan
Black is the Colour: Margaret
Booley-House Jig/The Butterfly: Mick
Winter Wood: Berry
A Close Shave: Angela
King of the Fishes (Windy old Weather): Roland
Moonshadow: Paul
Motherless Child: Roger
The Moon Shines Bright: Bill
The King: Colin & Bill
All I Want: Eddie
The Saucy Sailor: Jane
Auld Lang Syne: Duncan & full cast

I calculate that made 45 songs/tunes in less than 4 hours.
Is this a record?

Eddie sounded his noisy percussive instrument on the stroke of midnight.
We cheered.
Party-poppers exploded.
Considerable mess was made.
Festive greetings involving innocent physical contact were exchanged.
A nice lady called Celia took Colin home.

Waes Haeil!
