ANNUAL REPORT, 2015

Well, here we are at the end of another successful year for The City Folk Club, and we will shortly be able to mark 12 years of our survival.

  • Attendance ...

2015 saw a total of 1238 person-attendances including some welcome new faces.
That makes an average weekly attendance over 48 meetings of 15.18 participants, (not including stuffed rock-hoppers.)

And the attendance award goes to Mosley!

  • Performances ...
A total of 1238 pieces of something like music were performed including repetitions.
That's an average of 25.26 performances per meeting,
As it only costs you £2,00, that makes each one worth about 8 pence!
One wonders if we are not undervaluing our efforts as the quality of music just continues to astound.

  • Money ...
As an out-going Labour chancellor once declared ...

 "There is no money!"

Fear not; we are a not-for-profit organisation.
We achieved our aim of making no profit whatsoever, and Dogsbody did not enjoy an expensive Caribbean holiday at your expense!

  • Finally ...
Huge thanks to

  • all of you who have come along, regularly and occasionally,
  • to all who take turns as MC,
  • to all our performers and listeners,
  • to everyone who helps clear up at the end of the evening
  • to the Friends of Guiding who make this comfortable venue available to us
  • and to those kind individuals who make sure that Dogsbody gets home safely!

So, enjoy a very happy New Year, and please keep coming along to appreciate great music and fun in good company.

Being Friday the 18th Day of December, 2015 ...

PARTY TIME!

What a wonderful evening.
Attendance was such that we almost had to send for extra chairs ...

There were wonderful floral table-decorations ...

With enormous thanks to Angela.

Much food was consumed, (and almost as much was taken home!)

There was music and song, but no dancing.

Waterfall.

Now, where's little Jackie Frost?

Dawn and Phil took us to a remote island in the Indian Ocean ...

Christmas Island

A celestial being, (Mave,) brought a message ...

for a Most highly-flavoured lady ...
GLORIA!

... and a spaceman came travelling ...

and he sang, "La-la-la ..."

Mick had a more traditional mode of transport ...

Oh, look, Jehoshaphat ... that must be
the International Space Station.

Very many thanks to everyone who turned up to share music, food and good company, making this one of the most enjoyable and successful evenings of the year.

Particular thanks to Angela for keeping us in order, and for the beautiful flowers.

So, we hope that you all enjoy a Happy Christmas, Yuletide, or whatever you want to call it, in which ever fashion you choose, and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2016.

NEXT MEETING: Friday, 8th January, 2016.

Wednesday, December 16, 2015

Being Friday the Eleventh of December, 2015 ...

With only 14 days to go before Christmas, the Guides have blessed us with a tree ...

Paul officiated, commencing with a sad old song ...

Elayne took us to Ellis Island ...

... when you're only fifteen years.

Jo and Graham remained fully clothed whilst dancing with trees ...

Mave took us on a journey to the emerald isle ...

John and Debbie provided seasonal music in sweet rejoicing ...

In Elayne's company we visited Middle Earth ...

Lynda had a message for us ...

Pre-Christmas greetings have been shared via the internet ...

From Mike P:

Dear CCFC stars,
May I take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
See you in 2016.
BW,
Mike

From Lynda:

Hello Folkie friends.
Instead of sending Christmas cards, I have decided to buy some Oxfam chickens (going cheep, of course!)
I'd be grateful if you could pass this on to anyone without email.

I can't join you at Christmas, but I hope you all have fun.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

Love, Lynda.

Dogsbody is following Lynda's charitable example.

Here are two nanny goats bound for Cambodia ...

Joyful Christmas and ...

Peaceful New Year.

Saturday, December 5, 2015

Being Friday the fourth day of December, 2015 ...

So, what happened?

The first Christmas card arrived in the Dogsbody household.
Mrs Dogsbody insisted on decorating a tree ...

At the club ... nothing happened because we weren't there.

Anyway, here's some popular, seasonal music, possibly appropriate as the UK government has voted in favour in engaging in yet another, (so-called,) war ...

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Being Friday the 27th day of November, 2015 ...

There are occasions when confusion appears to reign at the City Folk Club.
Those occasions usually arise on the fourth Friday of the month when Berry takes the chair ...

Notwithstanding we arrived to discover the hall decorated in festive mode ...

Lynda took us to fields of destruction ...

... while Phil worked on the railway ...

Dawn took comfort in the arms of a celestial being ...

Mave lamented about dirt and finding rodents in her pies ...

Bob's guitar-playing is regrettably temporarily disabled...

We wish him a speedy recovery.

During the interval Phil's magnificent instrument was much admired ...

Roger visited an Irish castle ...

I wish I was ...

And here's Roger in the early hours of the morning ...

Waiting for sunrise with
four hours to go.

We considered the work of Thomas Tallis, Ralph Vaughan Williams and an unknown Sottish bard ...

All long the ladies sit and weep ...

Paul led us in the closing number ...

Now, should that be heaving or hauling your anchor?

IMPORTANT REMINDER

We will not be meeting next Friday, 4th December, as the Guides will be in residence.

Back to normal on 11th December.

Then on 18th December we will be holding our
FESTIVE PARTY.

  • Free entry.
  • Arrive early.
  • Bring a plate of food to share and your seasonal music.
