Being Friday the 18th of September, 2015 ...

The autumn equinox approaches.
We have heating ...

Paul arrived to take charge in good time ...

Remember this, composed in 1937 by Jerome Kern/Oscar Hammerstein II ...

Here's a folk song!

We were pleased to welcome Dawn in Phil's company ...

They made a delightful sound as Dawn
delivered a cautionary tale for young women.

One of Dawn's offerings led us to consider the concept of synchronised egg-production ...

Would you lay with me?

We were also fortunate to have Stuart and Jan all the way from Billingshurst. Here's Stuart ...

Let me remind you that Stuart and Jan host the Chapel Folk Club in Billingshurst at the Unitarian Chapel. Some of us have been along there ...

Gonna build a chapel.

Stuart writes most of his own material which he performs with supreme confidence.
He has his own website.
He has written some very nice things about The City Folk Club, so if you want your ego massaged, click here.

Thank you so very much, Stuart.

Being Friday, the 11th day of September, 2015 ...

There was one premature arrival ...

He/she (?) was ejected to occupy
next-door's drain.

Otherwise, what a turn-out this evening - 19 people, most of whom arrived on time. Indeed, some were early, in eager anticipation ...

Observe the joy on these faces.

Angela was in charge.
No one dares even think of defying Angela; she's a teacher ...

Now, listen carefully, children ...

Paul wished he had opted for a different vocation ...

Mave sang about the limitless possibilities of being ...

There are girls who grow up
strong and bold ...

Mike P. embarked on a voyage upstream towards Liverpool ...

No, that's not Mike; it is a youtube friend who has covered
just about every folk song in the English language.

There being one among us who sang about some difficulty with objective gender differentiation, Angela astutely, (almost para-normally!) noted that Dogsbody's predictable imagination was in over-drive.
Angela correctly discerned what he was thinking ...
"What image shall I post on the blog?"
She directed him thus: "Thou shalt post only images of Mars and Venus."

Is all now clear, John?

Colin sang of a dubious activity that some call sport ...

Simon sang of a maritime burial ...

No more he'll hear the tempest howling.

Debbie sent us home to dream of peace in our native land.

Being Friday the Fourth day of Septmber, 2015 ...

Who is this local resident that does not understand double-yellow lines nor the term 'KEEP CLEAR'?

It is fortunate that we have the doors open by 8.00pm.
Look who came along in good time ...

Dogsbody occupied the chair of authority, authority that was completely ignored by a certain participant who insisted on giving a dissertation about his latest electronic device.
He opened with a seasonal offering ...

... to glad the heart of man.

Paul didn't like the look of the weather ...

The weather-man says, "Clear today," but ...

Anne and Alan sang about a dating web-site ...

Roger went to sea again in a beautiful pea-green boat ...

John worried, (twice,) that others might consider him crazy ...

Yes, but, unlike Paul, I'm in denial!

We had to commiserate, (at considerable length,) with Tony who gave account of broken spectacles, a mislaid mobile phone ... and he forgot his guitar!

Bob brought along this repertoire of huge dimensions ...

Regrettably he left after the interval having performed nothing.
Now, Bob, below I paraphrase a serious message from Berry ...
Be not intimidated by the fret-board dexterity of those around you. They are just posers.
Any song/tune that demonstrates genuine endeavour will generate appreciative applause.

Another John turned up late, having looked for us in the Scout Hut in Whyke Road ...

Sorry, I'm late. I got bl**dy lost!

I knew I recognised his face. Some of us invaded the Amberley Accoustic Music Club a few years ago. John was running it then.

Alan and Anne took us to a charming harbour in the North-East of England ...

Then we went home in anticipation of greater understanding ...

Being Friday the 28th of August, 2015 ...

It having been widely advertised that we were to be privileged to have Berry as MC, people were clamouring at the door.
Some even managed to park their vehicles on the Guide Hall forecourt ...

Look ... no scaffolding!

However, be warned, those of a sensitive nature, there are things that might go 'BANG' ...

Berry opened with a song that anticipated maturity ...

When I'm a man, my plan ...

In contrast, accompanied by Berry, Paul acknowledged the benefits of being old and grey ...

Lynda charmingly transported us to Thomas Hardy country ...

Yvonne and Mike took us to a catering establishment ...

I'd like a burger and chips please!

There was the customary variety of accounts: romance, loves lost and found, only one hanging; no cross-dressing, no incest or infanticide, no suicide - not even a single lost limb!

There were collaborations ...

Here are Doo-Wah and Diddy ...

Gerry came along with June ...

June is the pretty one.
She sang a song that
translates from Korean as
The Lighthouse Keeper.

Now, what slings and arrows of outrageous fortune has Mike P. been suffering recently?
Mike talked about a freezer disaster and spilled curry-sauce.
Then he demonstrated a new pair of percussive instruments ...

Well, well, well, well ...

To finish we once again addressed this conundrum ...
Do you heave an anchor, or do you haul it?
Actually - neither ...

Heart-felt thanks to Berry for looking after proceedings so courteously/entertainingly/engagingly/equitably/charmingly, (and lots of other adjectives!)
... and indeed to all those faithful souls who wisely avoided the bank holiday traffic queues and cancelled trains.
This was one of the best attended evenings of the year so far, and the quality of performances just keeps on getting better.
Who needs CarFest or the Reading Festival when we've got The City Folk Club?
We have no mud here!
