The 'Paul' who did 'Jumbo the Elephant' & 'January Man' was the celebrated professional musician Paul Downes, who has played the Albert Hall and is an all-round Good Chap.

Re. Natalie's offerings ...
I have edited 'Planxty OWEN' to the correct title - 'Planxty IRWIN', as composed by that celebrated blind fiddler, Tourlough O'Carolan. Smashing tune!
'Maid of County Down' is a great tune as well.
Did you know that RVW collected that tune?
He labelled it 'Dives and Lazarus'.
He composed several orchestral variations thereon - worth a listen.
I have a hobby-horse about that tune.
It recurs throughout the folk canon in various guises, and with different lyrics.
That melody clearly occupies the communal consciousness of Celtic people.
Shall I continue?

PSHAW! and SHAME ON YOU, DS&W! My minimal researches so far have confirmed my recollection that Carolan was, albeit a blind one, a HARPER, not a fiddler. Ever. There's no indication he ever even touched one, let alone saw one. You gossoon!
